Well, it isn’t strictly a joke, but something that has made me laugh was definitely chapter 28 of Princess in practice from The Rosewood Chronicles series, by Connie Glynn.
I just love this chapter because there is just so much going on and it is so chaotic, and anyone who actually listened to me re-reading this scene to them (which is no one, because for some reason as soon as I whip out a book for a dramatic re-reading, everyone just so happens to have really important chores that they need to do at that very moment.) will know why this whole chapter is so entertaining.
I love how everyone is following each other around the school without them knowing, until they all bump into each other. And for those of you that you have not read this book (firstly what is wrong with you?), let me unhelpfully explain what goes on in this chapter.
Basically there is this gang of people that preyed on a bunch of kids that happened to be of a rich family, and then they had this mind control thing but they managed to escape them because of the ransom and what not, and then they all went to this school because their friends went to this school so they thought they would go there as well. We later find that this person is called Percy, and the effects of the mind control thing were still affecting him and he started sleep walking. But then it turns out none of that was true and he was getting controlled by the letters he received in the mail because the formula thing was still taking control of him. So he wasn’t really sleepwalking but he was unwillingly doing of because of the formula. Any way, so in chapter 28 Percy is ‘sleep walking’, and Jamie (the best character and you can’t change my mind) who also happens to be his room mate and a trained assassin follows him out to see where he is going, and then at the same time, Micky is also following Percy because they are best friends (That’s why Percy came to the school because of the previously mentioned friends) and he got worried. But little did Micky know, his sister, Lola, was also following Micky who was still following Percy who was also being followed by Jamie. And Lola heard an owl hooting in the background, but we don’t find out that is important until later. Then we turn to Anastasia who was practicing fencing at midnight, and then she started hallucinating her best friend who betrayed her by being part of the evil gang and is now in the prison of the princess that Jamie is the trained assassin for. But then she sees Percy walking past and decides to follow him. Then as it turns out, Raphael was following Anastasia because she had been sneaking out each night, so he was following her follow Percy. But then Raphael found three other people sneaking around the school, one of which happened to be Binah. the other two were Lottie and Ellie. (and they are technically royalty and that is the place Saskia is in the palace prison of. So that makes that friendship a little weird. Mind you, Saskia tried to kidnap Lottie, but that was in the first book.)Anyway, so those three were following Percy because they saw Jamie’s reaction to this weird symbol, which also happened to be the same symbol that was making Percy ‘sleepwalk’. Then it is revealed that the owl hooting was Binah as a secret code. So Raphael ran into Ellie, Lottie and Binah, and before they could sort anything out, Lola stumbled into them and then Jamie appeared out of no where, and Lottie tripped over someone hiding behind a door but Ellie tried to catch her the same time Jamie did so they all fell into a giant pile which led to a lot of struggling for them to get up. And then as it turns out, the person she tripped on was Micky, and then they all watched Percy place a poisoned chocolate bar in the place of a normal one. Then Anastasia barged into the room and woke Percy up without realising the others were there, but then the thing they were all crouching behind gave way and they all fell into a giant pile. Including Anastasia and Percy. Then Jamie tried to help Percy up because he wasn’t aware on anything that was going on because he was under the influence of the formula that he was getting in the letters, so he is woken up by Anastasia yelling “Hey!” in his facing then falling into a giant pile of bodies and being picked up by a trained assassin who is still the best character.
And that is why I find that chapter funny.
Thank you very much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!
Also, a big thank you to Ben Huberman for this prompt! I finally have a reason to rant about this book.
