Get Hooked has moved!

That’s right. I’m re-branding.

Ok so to start off, I feel like I need to address something; Recently, a lot of people have started to follow my blog. (It was only 3, but it was still a lot at the time) I don’t really know why when I hadn’t uploaded anything in ages, but life’s full of surprises. (Sidenote, to all three of those people who followed me recently, I would like to say thank you. I appreciate you a lot.) Ok now I have addressed that, I can get on with the original blog post.

So I have decided to create a new blog. Why? This one just isn’t working for me. I think I chose the wrong theme for my blog, and it’s just a bit of a mess. Not only that, but becase I spent so long trying to figure out what everything does, I have heaps of random things everywhere making it really hard to navigate on this website. But now I know what I am doing, things are going much smoother on my new blog.

I don’t really know what else to say actually. If you want to support my new blog, click here. If you don’t then, oh well.

I feel like I should give some kind of dramatic ending considering this is my last post on this website, but I don’t know how necessary that is.

I’ll see you on the other side I guess (That’s as dramatic as it’s going to get)

Blog Update: Where did I go?

Hello! I know it’s been a while, but guess who’s back!

I have been really busy the past few months, and I’m not going to lie, I kind of forgot about this blog.

But I am back and I am going to try and start it back up again. I just did a quick 10 minute crash course on how to actually use WordPress, so I will be gradually improving this blog over the next few weeks.

So that concludes this update. I know it’s short and I didn’t really say much, but I will be back soon with a few posts.

Thank you so much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

What would you like to see on my blog next?

I’ve had this blog for a while now, and I have decided that I would make a quick poll to see what others would like to see next on my blog.

I don’t know if anyone will actually vote on this, but if you do see this, it would honestly mean so much to me if you took the time to vote. I like improving on things and if you took the time to complete this it would help me a lot.

Thank you in advance, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

(P.s. Please let me know if there are any issues with the link, as this is my first ever poll, I have no idea if I have done this right or not.)

Attention blog viewers!

Recently, I have started thinking about opening an online Etsy store. Selling crocheted goods, like baubles or little amigurumi creatures, and so on. But I have thought, if people wanted to buy something from me, what would they buy? And that’s where you come in. If you want, I would like you to tell me what kind of things you would personally like to get from an Etsy store, just to give me some possible ideas and inspiration.

Please note, that it will probably be quite a while until I actually open an Etsy shop. I would still like to work out all the little details, postage and all sorts of other things. I’d say maybe give it three months for the shop to open, but I won’t guarantee anything.

That’s all for now, and I’d love to hear your ideas!

Get Hooked

“Blue is the only colour which maintains its own character in all its tones.”

-Raoul Dufy

This is a blog mainly about crocheting, and quite often, bullet journaling. There are also other tabs for you to check out too, but they won’t be the main purpose of this blog. I hope that this blog will inspire you to try something new and creative, and that you will learn something new.

Welcome to my new blog! I’m so glad that you have found it, and I hope that it will help you in someway or another. If you aren’t a crocheter, please stay tuned while I prepare a beginners guide to crocheting. Or maybe you are more interested in bullet journalling, well you are in the right space as I am going to update you with my bullet journal, and bullet journal inspiration.

I am hoping that in the future, I will be able to put even more creativity inspiration on here, for drawing or writing.

Please bear with me as I am new to this, and I am still trying to work out how to use this website. I will update this as soon as I can, and, if you want, you can follow me to be updated whenever I upload something. Of course that is completely up to you, and I will talk to you in the next post!

Creating Story Characters

Now this will sound quite weird, but when I am bored I like to create book characters. I like making unique characters that each have a different background, appearance, quirks ect. And just recently have I stumbled across this ‘Character Creating Cheat Sheet’. And for whatever reason I thought it would be a great idea to share it with you guys because who knows? Maybe you will need this one day. You never know. So here it is:

  1. Characters name
  2. Characters nickname
  3. Appearance
  4. Parents
  5. Siblings
  6. Significant other
  7. Gender
  8. Nationality
  9. Birth date
  10. Where they live
  11. Job status
  12. Biggest fear
  13. IQ
  14. Eating habits
  15. Food preferences
  16. Music preferences
  17. Do they keep a journal (if yes what is is in?)
  18. What excites them
  19. Pet peeves
  20. Are they planned or spontaneous
  21. Are they a leader or a learner
  22. Do they prefer groups or being alone
  23. General health
  24. Handwriting
  25. Things in glove box (in a car)
  26. Things kept in backpack
  27. Talents
  28. Flaws
  29. old Halloween costumes (or their old clothes could work too)
  30. What would their passwords be
  31. What social media platforms would they use
  32. prized possessions
  33. Favourite plqce
  34. Favourite memory
  35. Obsessions
  36. Hobbies
  37. Ambitions
  38. How they see themselves
  39. How others see them
  40. Main mode of transport
  41. Favourite book genre
  42. Sleep schedule (good or bad)
  43. When do they work most (day or night)

The whole point of this cheat sheet is to help you either create a character or to help you gain a better connection to your character. Even if all this information isn’t included in your story, knowing this stuff can actually help you understand your character more and give you a better understanding of them. (Let me know if that doesn’t make any sense.)

Anyway, that is the end of this post, and I genuinely hope that this helps someone (other than myself) at some point.

Thank you very much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

Short Story Update No. 4

Guys. I have had a brilliant idea. And it has been tickling the back of my brain for the past few days, and I just have to share it. I’ve been stewing the idea for a while, and I just want to start writing.

Ok so the idea is this: A witch, [insert something amazing here that I haven’t quite thought of yet], and then she saves her town.

So, you know, I clearly have everything figured out. I know it looks like I haven’t thought of anything yet, but it is a major work in progress. At least I have a story idea. Right? Anyway, I thought I might share some of my ideas for this story, and give you an idea of what I’m working with here.

  • The main character (female) is a witch who lives in a really cute witchy cottage in a forest
  • She brews her own potions
  • She has cats. And lots of them.
  • She sells her potions
  • She has enrolled in a potion brewing school? (I have no idea with this one)
  • Some evil force has come to destroy her town for some reason and she needs to stop it some way or another.

So yeah, that’s all. I know it doesn’t look like much, and probably sounds like a stupid story, but it is a work in progress. As they say; “The first draft isn’t meant to be perfect. It just needs to exist.”

I don’t know how long this idea will last until I eventually get sick of it, but I mean it’s significant progress. (Also I just realised this is the fourth story update I have made and yet this is the first one where I have actually done something worth updating.)

Thank you very much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

What am I going to do with macrame?

Yesterday, I made a post explaining why I have taken up the skill of macrame. If you haven’t read it yet, click here.

Anyway, something I realised I left out of that post was what I actually want to make with macrame. Which is like the most important thing of all this.

So I decided that I want to make friendship bracelets. And before you all freak out about ‘Oh no you’re a VSCO girl!’ (Btw I still don’t 100% know what that means), I am not a ‘VSCO girl.’ I just want to make friendship bracelets in peace.

I just like the look of them if I’m being honest. Like there are so many different patterns and designs you can make with them, and I think that is the bit that appeals most to me. There are so many possibilities, and you can then vary the colours. I just love the idea of it.

Another thing I want to clear up is that I won’t be attempting big wall macrame things. I definitely agree that they look cool, and it takes a it of skill to make something like that, but I just don’t think it is something I would enjoy much. So that is that. However, if you like making hanging macrame planters or whatever, go for it. Who am I to stop you?

Above: What I want to do
What I don’t want to do. Although I do think it is pretty and it takes a lot of skill, I just don’t think I would be very interested in it.

I hope this post clears up any confusion anyone might have had about what I want to do with my macrame journey! Feel free to ask any questions or give any suggestions for macrame!

Thank you very much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post.

My Macrame Journey Begins!

Hello! It’s been a while since I have posted anything, but you know, these times are a little bit hectic.

Anyway, in this whole quarantine thing, I am one of the many people who have decided to take this time to take up a new skill. Which, if you haven’t guessed already, is macrame.

I’ve wanted to learn how to do macrame for such a long time, and it always seemed to fail. whenever I attempted it. But the macrame Gods must’ve been looking upon me and finally blessed me with the skill. When I attempted it again for the first time in a few months, it came out better than I had ever expected. It was need, it looked actually good, and it looked like heaps of effort had gone into it.

So this is just what this segment of the blog will be about. Now don’t expect me to be really good at it, or for me to have done all these really complicated designs. But, throughout this journey, I hope to (maybe) get to that level of skill. And (much) later down the line, I might share some macrame patterns with you all. (Maybe some of my own designs as well)

So I hope that maybe a few people will come on this macrame journey with me, or maybe I might even inspire you to learn another skill; macrame or not.

Thank you very much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

This is what I managed to achieve after not doing macrame for a couple of months. I think it turned out for a first attempt, and I think I need to give myself a little bit of credit here.

Short Story Update No. 3

Soooooo, It’s been a while since I last posted a short story update, and I guess I might as well catch you guys up on what’s been happening; nothing. I’ve done nothing about this whole short story idea and yes I am a bit annoyed with myself about it. But I can’t change the past, so it is what it is I guess.

The main problem I am having with this whole short story idea, is that I can’t think of anything that I truly want to write about. And if I find something, it doesn’t stick for long and I just give up. And that is just the cycle.

So that concludes this update. I know you guys are probably going to get very sick of me giving updates on me doing nothing, but that is just what it is. I don’t know how many more updates there will be saying I’ve done nothing, or when I’ll finally give an update saying I’ve done something. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Thank you for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

Discover Prompts: Joke

Well, it isn’t strictly a joke, but something that has made me laugh was definitely chapter 28 of Princess in practice from The Rosewood Chronicles series, by Connie Glynn.

I just love this chapter because there is just so much going on and it is so chaotic, and anyone who actually listened to me re-reading this scene to them (which is no one, because for some reason as soon as I whip out a book for a dramatic re-reading, everyone just so happens to have really important chores that they need to do at that very moment.) will know why this whole chapter is so entertaining.

I love how everyone is following each other around the school without them knowing, until they all bump into each other. And for those of you that you have not read this book (firstly what is wrong with you?), let me unhelpfully explain what goes on in this chapter.

Basically there is this gang of people that preyed on a bunch of kids that happened to be of a rich family, and then they had this mind control thing but they managed to escape them because of the ransom and what not, and then they all went to this school because their friends went to this school so they thought they would go there as well. We later find that this person is called Percy, and the effects of the mind control thing were still affecting him and he started sleep walking. But then it turns out none of that was true and he was getting controlled by the letters he received in the mail because the formula thing was still taking control of him. So he wasn’t really sleepwalking but he was unwillingly doing of because of the formula. Any way, so in chapter 28 Percy is ‘sleep walking’, and Jamie (the best character and you can’t change my mind) who also happens to be his room mate and a trained assassin follows him out to see where he is going, and then at the same time, Micky is also following Percy because they are best friends (That’s why Percy came to the school because of the previously mentioned friends) and he got worried. But little did Micky know, his sister, Lola, was also following Micky who was still following Percy who was also being followed by Jamie. And Lola heard an owl hooting in the background, but we don’t find out that is important until later. Then we turn to Anastasia who was practicing fencing at midnight, and then she started hallucinating her best friend who betrayed her by being part of the evil gang and is now in the prison of the princess that Jamie is the trained assassin for. But then she sees Percy walking past and decides to follow him. Then as it turns out, Raphael was following Anastasia because she had been sneaking out each night, so he was following her follow Percy. But then Raphael found three other people sneaking around the school, one of which happened to be Binah. the other two were Lottie and Ellie. (and they are technically royalty and that is the place Saskia is in the palace prison of. So that makes that friendship a little weird. Mind you, Saskia tried to kidnap Lottie, but that was in the first book.)Anyway, so those three were following Percy because they saw Jamie’s reaction to this weird symbol, which also happened to be the same symbol that was making Percy ‘sleepwalk’. Then it is revealed that the owl hooting was Binah as a secret code. So Raphael ran into Ellie, Lottie and Binah, and before they could sort anything out, Lola stumbled into them and then Jamie appeared out of no where, and Lottie tripped over someone hiding behind a door but Ellie tried to catch her the same time Jamie did so they all fell into a giant pile which led to a lot of struggling for them to get up. And then as it turns out, the person she tripped on was Micky, and then they all watched Percy place a poisoned chocolate bar in the place of a normal one. Then Anastasia barged into the room and woke Percy up without realising the others were there, but then the thing they were all crouching behind gave way and they all fell into a giant pile. Including Anastasia and Percy. Then Jamie tried to help Percy up because he wasn’t aware on anything that was going on because he was under the influence of the formula that he was getting in the letters, so he is woken up by Anastasia yelling “Hey!” in his facing then falling into a giant pile of bodies and being picked up by a trained assassin who is still the best character.

And that is why I find that chapter funny.

Thank you very much for reading, and I’ll talk to you in the next post!

Also, a big thank you to Ben Huberman for this prompt! I finally have a reason to rant about this book.
